Statement from New York Jets Chairman and CEO Woody Johnson on the passing of Dr. James A. Nicholas

"We extend our sincerest sympathy to the family of Dr. James Nicholas, a man whose impact on the Jets organization is perhaps exceeded only by the profound mark he left on the practice of sports medicine. Dr. Nicholas was a pioneer in his field -and the lives of thousands of elite athletes and Americans were improved because of his work. He was the founding director of the world-renowned Nicholas Institute of Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma (NISMAT) at Lenox Hill Hospital, where he set the standard for his profession, and raised the bar. He holds a special place in the hearts of Jets fans and players alike -Joe Namath first among them -for the devotion he gave this team over several decades. He cared for the players, staff and coaches as he would his own family, and he will always be remembered as part of the New York Jets family."
