Poteat & Hamilton Added to the Defense

The New York Jets announced today they have signed defensive back Hank Poteat, who had previously been with New England. The announcement was made by Jets' General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Poteat, 5-10, 195, was waived by the Patriots on August 29th. In his five professional seasons, the former Steelers' third-round selection, has amassed 33 tackles and one sack in 52 career games. He has also gained 818 yards on 45 kickoff returns and 788 yards on 76 punt returns.

The New York Jets also announced that they have aqcuired defensive end Bobby Hamilton from Oakland in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick. The announcement was made by Jet's General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Hamilton, 6-5, 285, is a 12-year NFL veteran who has played in 148 games, making 103 starts. He has accumulated 283 tackles and 18.5 sacks in his career, while playing for the Jets (1996-1999), Patriots (2000-2003, two Super Bowls) and Raiders.
