Mangini Teams Up With USA Football

New York Jets head coach Eric Mangini has joined USA Football, the sport's national governing body on youth, high school and international amateur levels, as a coaching program advisor and spokesperson.

Mangini, 36, has been a part of three Super Bowl championships, three AFC titles and five AFC East crowns in a young and impressive 13-year NFL coaching career.

Mangini bolsters USA Football's progressive coaching program, helping coaches to teach the youth and amateur game and to create a positive experience for players, parents and fellow coaches. The Hartford, Conn., native offers guidance to USA Football members through online coaching courses at USAFootball.com. Also on the website is a USA Football video testimonial from the Jets coach.

"We are more than pleased to have Coach Mangini's endorsement and support," USA Football executive director Scott Hallenbeck said. "His credentials combined with the fact that he's a dedicated parent of young children make him a great fit for our team. His involvement will benefit our coaching program members and ultimately the thousands of youngsters they coach."

"I'm proud to be part of USA Football," Mangini said. "They provide great resources for leagues, coaches, game officials, parents and players. I invite everyone in the football community to join me and ensure a strong future for our game."

USA Football offers the following to help coaches enhance their skills:

  • Single-day coaching schools conducted in partnership with NFL clubs. Eighteen schools in 2007 drew a total of 4,000 coaches, benefiting about 100,000 youth players.
  • Two levels of coaching courses at USAFootball.com, implementing 2-D and 3-D animation. Besides football, the courses include insight on communication with players, parents and coaches.
  • USAFootball.com coaches' guide covering topics from game planning to health and safety.
  • USAFootball.com practice planner, interactive playbook and drills library.
  • USAFootball.com "Ask the Expert" question and answer feature. Experts include 30-year NFL coaching veteran Tom Bass and other experienced youth and high school coaches.

USA Football's annual coaching membership is $14.99. Members also receive a Pro Football Hall of Fame pass and a USA Football Magazine subscription. To register for membership, go to USAFootball.com or call 1-877-5-FOOTBALL.
