Locker Room Sound Bites: Jets-Bills

Todd Bowles on His Concerns About the Loss, Rex Ryan on His Feelings About the Win, & More

!

Selected quotes from the Jets' and Bills' locker rooms at MetLife Stadium following the Jets' 22-17 loss Thursday night:

Head coach Todd Bowles on if he feels this was a game the Jets should have won...

"No, you lose games for a reason. We lost the game because of the turnover battle. I'm not going to look back and say we should've won this game. We were in it. We fought hard. We didn't play situational football. We didn't execute in the red zone. We turned the ball over on our end of the field."

Bills head coach Rex Ryan on beating the Jets, the team he coached the previous six seasons...

"Well, it doesn't feel that good ... Hell, yeah, how do you think it feels? Dang right, it feels great, absolutely. You beat a hell of a football team, a very talented team. ... We weren't comfortable. We had a lead and it was like, God, you were never comfortable, obviously. We just had to keep fighting and that's what we did as a team."

QB Ryan Fitzpatrick on the third-and-goal pass to WR Eric Decker from the Bills 3 with 3:46 to play that lost a yard...

"I called something there. I made a lot of mistakes today and that was one of them. I wish I knew the ball was going to come out quick. I thought the DB would play a little bit softer. He did not. But that was 100% my call there.

Fitzpatrick on the third-down play on the previous drive where he gained 6 yards on a keeper up the middle...

"The thinking was I didn't like the play we were in. I thought I'd be able to get 5, 6, 7 yards for a manageable fourth down. I knew that was a time in the game where we were going to go for it on fourth down. I was ready to answer all the questions you had for me if we didn't convert it, but we converted the fourth down, nice little connection with Decker. It was more the defense they were in. I didn't like what they were doing and I thought I wanted to give ourselves a manageable fourth down there."

WR Eric Decker on if he thought it was the Jets' game after Buffalo gave them the ball at their 13 off a bad punt snap as time grew short in the fourth quarter...

"Yeah. You've got to finish the game. You get a first down, an 8-yard run, second-and-2 — you can't really be in any better situation. We just didn't execute. Again, I give credit to them, but we should've punched it in."

WR Brandon Marshall on the difference in the game...

"They made more plays than us. We gave them some plays, some turnovers, and that just can't happen against a team like that, a feisty, hungry team."

CB Buster Skrine on if the game was extra emotional for many of his teammates because Rex was on the opposite sideline...

"It's an emotional game because it's a division game. We weren't thinking too much about Rex Ryan and the Bills. It was just a division game. We definitely wanted to win that game, but we're all 5-4 now besides the Patriots so we're just going to take it from there."

Ryan on what he was thinking after the bad punt snap...

"Well, it wasn't ideal, let's just put it to you that way. But no, because we had some breaks ourselves and obviously that was just the way the game was going and it was a big play against us. But our guys stood on their heads and we kept them out of the end zone."

Ryan on DE Mario Williams starting but playing very little due to illness...

"He got sicker than a dog. We were pumping fluids in him. We were doing everything and it was unbelievable. He tried to go and then he had nothing, he had no strength. Shoot, he's not dead but he thinks he is."

Bills RB LeSean McCoy on his 112 yards on 19 carries...

"To be honest, I wish I could have had some of those carries back and ran them a little different. On some of the carries, I felt like I was dancing a little too much. It's hard because when you see so much space, I'm used to going the distance. The Jets defensive line was able to make some plays. Give them some credit."

CB Darrelle Revis on the rest of the Jets' season...

"We can control our destiny. We knew coming into this game it was a big game for both sides and this could have put us ahead if we won this game. Now we're sitting at 5-4. We have the break and hopefully we get away from football for a little bit and everybody can come back fresh and ready to work. We have a long way to go for the rest of the season."
