Jets-Rams: Locker Room Sound Bites

How Bryce Petty Fared in His First NFL Start & What's Left to Play For in the Final Six Games

Selected quotes from the Jets' and the visitors' locker rooms following the Jets' 9-6 loss to the L.A. Rams at MetLife Stadium this afternoon:

Head coach Todd Bowles on who'll start at QB for the Jets' next game in two weeks vs. New England..."We'll evaluate that next week as we go forward. We have a bye week to evaluate it and I'll see how Fitz feels. We'll watch the film on Bryce and make a determination middle of next week. ... I'm trying to play the best player right now and win ball games. If it's Bryce, it's Bryce. If it's Fitz, it's Fitz."

Bryce Petty on wanting to start another NFL game after getting his first pro start vs. the Rams..."Shoot, I wouldn't be a competitor if I didn't want another one. Same thing with Ryan [Fitzpatrick]. Ryan was upset that he wasn't playing this game. That's what I like about him. I want to be around guys that are like that. We make each other better when we're in that room. There's definitely a drive and a hunger that's never stopped, never will. You have to understand your role and understand timing, and I've had a good amount of patience, I guess, throughout my athletic career. I understand it's all on God's timing and when it comes, it'll come."

CB Darrelle Revis on if the defense felt more pressure due to Bryce Petty making his first NFL start for the offense..."I don't think so. We were excited for our brother to get the start. Petty's been working his butt off, and that's our brother. So we definitely support him, we support the coach's decision. He got the call and we ran with that."

RB Matt Forte on how Petty played..."He did well. He was very composed back there for his first career start. There's definitely some room for improvement for everybody, but Bryce did a good job, I feel like, back there. It's just a shame that we couldn't capitalize on some of the things that we had going."

WR Brandon Marshall on what the Jets can take out of today's loss..."Sports teaches you so many lessons and I wouldn't change it for the world."

NT Steve McLendon on how much more the defense can do after holding the Rams to no TDs..."The standard is the standard. The standard is no points. Anytime we're on the field, we have to stop them and they got more stops than we did, so they won."

Rookie LB Darron Lee returning to action after missing three games with an ankle injury..."Yeah, I was out there running, on a couple of those sacks causing disruptions. I knew they weren't just going to throw me back in there. But the plays I was in there, I felt fine."

Rams head coach Jeff Fisher on the final score..."Well, a win's a win. We'll take it. There was some discussion over the last couple of days between some of the staff members implying that this may be a 6-3 game with the way both defenses are playing. We were correct in that assumption."

Rams DE Robert Quinn on P Johnny Hekker's 78-yard punt early in the fourth quarter..."When you're looking at one 10-yard line and see the ball end up on the other 10-yard line, that's a good change of field."

Forté on what the Jets have to play for the rest of the way..."We've got everything to play for, each other. And that's the main thing you want to echo in the locker room is that you're playing for the guy next to you. This is your job. Playoffs may or may not be out of the picture or whatever. That doesn't mean you go out there and lay an egg and go through the motions. If that's your mindset, then you need to get out of the locker room."

DL Muhammad Wilkerson on what happens for the Jets the rest of the season..."I think going into the bye, everyone just has to refresh their memories. It's a tough first half of the season. Learn from what we did wrong, get better at it. The positives, make sure we continue that and build off that, and once we come back from the bye, definitely finish strong for the second half of the season."
