Two days prior to the Jets' preseason opener vs. the Packers, HC Aaron Glenn said he expects to win every time his team steps on the grass. And late Saturday night in Green Bay, Glenn's Jets delivered with a 30-10 win as all three phases contributed in a convincing summer victory.
"Great win for our guys," Glenn said. "I was always taught if you want to be a winner, not only do you have to understand to win but (you have to) understand how to consistently win."
Justin Fields played one drive and his 13-yard rush TD with 8:44 remaining in the first quarter gave the Jets a lead they would never relinquish. Defensively, the Jets sacked Green Bay QBs 4 times and Leonard Taylor's strip-sack of Malik Willis resulted in a Jay Tufele TD. And the special teams units were solid as rookie Ja’Markis Weston recovered a muffed putt deep inside Green Bay territory, setting up a chip shot field goal for the visitors.
After the Jets forced the Packers into an early punt, Fields led the Jets on a 79-yard drive over 10 plays. He attacked underneath, completing 3 of 4 on the possession for 42 yards and converted two third downs – one on a short toss to Tyler Johnson and the latter with an electrifying 13-yard scoring run. After celebrating the score with 8:44 remaining in the first quarter, Fields handed the QB reins over to rookie Brady Cook.
"I think it was important for us to get out on the field," Fields said. "Practice isn't the same as a game, so it was nice getting out there and the stadium feel. Great atmosphere always in Lambeau, but it was awesome for sure."

The Jets ended Jordan Love's night with Tufele sack, but the big defensive tackle and the defense were just getting started. LB Jamin Davis brought backup Malik Willis down early in quarter two before Taylor jarred the ball loose from Willis and the loose change was scrooped on by Tufele in the end zone. Moments later, Tufele was credited with Willis sandwich that he split with Braiden McGregor.
Up 17-3, the Jets got back into the end zone on a TE screen executed to the perfection from Adrian Martinez to Stone Smartt. With a 27-10 advantage in the fourth quarter, rookie Donovan Edwards' 73-yard score came off the board due to a holding penalty called on Liam Fornadel. After being charged with 10 penalties for 91 yards marked off, the Green & White have some cleaning up to do before next week's joint practices with the Giants. But this was a promising start for a team headed in a new direction.
"This was a great win for our guys, but there are a lot of things we have to clean up, a number of things and we will clean those things up," Glenn said. "So, I look forward to going into next week."
