Jets-Bills: Locker Room Sound Bites

Ryan Fitzpatrick on Bittersweet Win, Leonard Williams & Jordan Jenkins on Offseason Ahead

Selected quotes from the Jets and Bills in their MetLife Stadium locker rooms following the Jets' season-ending 30-10 victory this afternoon:

QB Ryan Fitzpatrick on ending a frustrating season with a victory over the Bills...
"It's been a tough year but it's over now. Today was just kind of more about playing with all these guys and just kind of going out there and having fun, and I thought we did a good job of that. ... I don't think anybody expected to sit here celebrating a win over the Bills the last game of the year and having it not be for the playoffs, having it as a 5-11 record. There's definitely some disappointment there."

WR Quincy Enunwa on how much pride the team takes in winning this game...
"A lot. I think we're all happy. We're very prideful of what we did today. I think anytime you can go out there and finish the season strong in all three phases, it makes you very happy about what you can do and what you're capable of in the offseason."

HC Todd Bowles on if he's the right coach for this team...
"I understand the fans are frustrated. We're frustrated as well. I know what my job is as coach and I'm confident going forward. The first year we were 10-6. This year we were 5-11. Going forward, we'll start new next year."

CB Buster Skrine on if Coach Bowles has the ability to coach the Jets to a winning season in '17...
"Yeah, I think we have a young, talented team. He's the right guy for New York and I think he's a great coach."

DL Leonard Williams on the young players the Jets can build a foundation with...
"Definitely. I know there's going to be a lot of changes and a lot more younger guys coming in next year. But me, Darron Lee, Jordan Jenkins, we're going to have to step up next year, and some of the younger core guys are going to have to step up and be leaders."

Rookie LB Jordan Jenkins, who got the strip sack of EJ Manuel and fumble recovery deep in Buffalo territory in the third quarter, on today's three defensive takeaways...
"It's something we really wanted to focus on. The year before [at Georgia], I had way more interceptions, fumbles and strip sacks and things like that. In the offseason we're really going to have to focus and having that in our mindset. We've got to win that turnover battle in the game."

LB Corey Lemonier, the newly acquired Jets 'backer who also hit Manuel on the Jenkins play...
"I'm going to claim it. It's a moral sack for me. But it doesn't matter. We made the play, we made the stop. It's kind of like a short week for me. I just got here. So I appreciate the Jets for giving me this opportunity. I'm excited about getting to play with all these new guys [next year]. It seems like a very young and hungry group of guys."

Doug Middleton on hearing someone tell him to jump on the live kickoff that the Bills didn't cover in the fourth quarter to score his first pro touchdown...
"When I got down there, I really didn't know the rule. We always go over all the rules, but that was one I wasn't really too familiar with. I don't know if it was God or people on the field, but somebody said something to me, man."

Middleton on being one of those players that the ball just seems to find...
"I've been doing it in practice all the time. When I kept doing it, they decided to move me up. I just try to take advantage of every opportunity I get. That's been my goal."

Bills interim head coach Anthony Lynn on if this game will affect his candidacy for the team's permanent head-coaching position...
"I never really thought about it that way because I'm just so disappointed right now in the way we played. I thought we had prepared and were going to play better, but my whole intention and my whole focus was getting ready to play the New York Jets. I wasn't really thinking about down the road."

Lynn on Mike Gillislee not covering the live kickoff that Middleton recovered for the Jets...
"He was thinking the ball rolled into the end zone and it was a dead ball. It wasn't a smart decision by him. You would think he would know that, but he didn't."

Lynn on if he would talk to the Bills before taking another NFL coaching offer...
"This is where I want to be is right here with the Buffalo Bills. So this would be my number one."

Bills DL Kyle Williams on what he saw from interim head coach Anthony Lynn, who took over the reins this week...
"I think A-Lynn needs to be evaluated on what he's done through the season. Throw a guy out there with basically three days and try to be a head coach, I don't think that's a fair assessment. You have to look at the job he's done with the offense and the things he did through the year. He's obviously a guy that tons of guys have respect for, he commands the room, he's a great leader. Nobody would be more deserving than him if the opportunity came where he was the coach."

Jets LB David Harris on continuing his pursuit of Kyle Clifton, the top tackler in franchise history, for the next couple of seasons...
"I'm under contract for another year so we'll see."
