WR Garrett Wilson: We Just Didn't Get a Rhythm on Offense

A week after starting the game with four consecutive scoring drives against the Steelers, the Jets offense struggled out of the gate Sunday against the Bills. In Buffalo's 30-10 win Sunday at MetLife Stadium, the Jets totaled just 154 yards, went 0-of-11 on third down and held the ball 21:39.

Making matters worse, starting QB Justin Fields, who was just 3-of-11 passing for 27 yards, sustained a concussion while being sacked by Buffalo edge Joey Bosa in the fourth quarter. Fields, who had a 27-yard explosive run in the second stanza, let the Jets' rush attack with 49 yards on 5 carries.

"I feel like we just didn't get a rhythm on offense and that was hard on all of us out there," said WR Garrett Wilson. "We didn't do a good job of helping him. I know I put one on the ground today and making plays when he was out there, so we all have to do our part. And that starts with us in the receiving room making plays and getting this thing rolling as soon as we get out on the field."

Targeted 8 times, Wilson led the Jets with 4 receptions and 50 yards. But as a sign of struggles to come, Fields missed what appeared to be an open Wilson on the game's third play.

The Jets never got on track, setting for a Nick Folk 51-yard field goal late in the second quarter before Tyrod Taylor ended Sunday's scoring with a fourth-down scoring toss to TE Jeremy Ruckert. The Jets other 8 possessions ended on seven Austin McNamara punts and a Bosa strip-sack of Fields that was recovered by A.J. Epenesa in plus territory.

"All week, you feel like you have a good plan," Wilson said. "We had a good week of practice and come out and lay an egg when it matters, so we have to figure it out. I don't know, I don't know exactly how that happens. Props to them I guess."

For the second consecutive week, the Jets lost the turnover battle as Bosa's strip-sack led to a Matt Prater FG that gave the visitors a 10-0 lead. The Jets were also flagged for 5 penalties including a roughing the passer penalty on Micheal Clemons on Buffalo's first scoring drive.

"Those are things that we talk about all week that we can't do," Wilson said. "Everybody who is responsible, nobody feels worse than them at that time when they make those plays. But they all know that. Those are things we talk about all week, we emphasize all week – the ball No. 1, and how to go against 17, the Bills 17 [QB Josh Allen]. All week we hammered that home we thought and just stuff that can't when we're playing against a good team like that. When you do stuff like that, you're going to find yourself in a tough spot."
