Bryce Petty gets his second pro start and first by coach's decision at quarterback for the Jets against the 49ers at Levi's Stadium this afternoon. And he'll be doing it behind the Green & White's seventh different offensive line alignment this season and the fourth in the last six games.

Wesley Johnson returns under center for his fifth start with Nick Mangold (ankle) going on Injured Reserve at midweek. And with Breno Giacomini ailing from back, calf and shoulder injuries, he will be inactive and Brent Qvale will get the start at RT.

This will be Qvale's fourth start of the year, third at RT, but first since he stepped in for Brian Winters at RG for Game 5 at Pittsburgh. And combined with Ben Ijalana making his fifth start at LT, this is the first time the line will have three starters different from the quintet of Ryan Clady, James Carpenter, Mangold, Winters and Giacomini envisioned as the starters heading into this season.

But with all of today's OL starters having starting experience this season, RB Matt Forte should get some running lanes against San Francisco's 32nd-ranked run defense and Petty will have the protection to get the ball to his receivers against the 49ers' 14th-ranked pass defense.

The defense will be regaining a starter in S Calvin Pryor, who cleared the NFL's concussion protocol and is back after missing last week's game against the Colts. Also in the secondary, Marcus Williams (ankle), who has sat out three games, is again active.

WR Devin Smith may also be ready to make his 2016 debut after spending nine games on the Physically Unable to Perform list and the last three games deactivated.

Additionally, several players are active and could make their Jets debuts: LBs Freddie Bishop (signed from the practice squad Saturday) and Arthur Brown (acquired on waivers Wednesday), RB Brandon Wilds (signed from the practice squad Wednesday), and S Doug Middleton (signed from the practice squad Thursday)

The Jets' complete inactive list for today's game:

■ QB Christian Hackenberg
■ CB Dexter McDougle
■ RB Khiry Robinson
■ LB Lorenzo Mauldin
■ T Breno Giacomini
■ WR Jalin Marshall
■ NT Steve McLendon

And the 49ers' inactive list, which includes two starters, LT Joe Staley and DT Quinton Dial:

■ QB Christian Ponder
■ CB Marcus Cromartie
■ RB Mike Davis
■ T Joe Staley
■ TE Je'Ron Hamm
■ DT Quinton Dial
■ LB Tank Carradine

The Jets have two gameday captains: WR Quincy Enunwa and DL Leonard Williams.

The Jets are wearing white jerseys and green pants for the seventh game this season. Their only win in white/green came in Game 8 by 31-28 at Cleveland.

Today's referee is Craig Wrolstad. It's his fifth Jets game as ref, with all the previous four in 2014-15 winding up with Jets wins: vs. Oakland in the '14 season opener, at Miami in the '14 finale, and over Miami in London and the Cowboys at Dallas last season.
