The Jets scored 23 points in the fourth quarter to nip the Bengals, 39-38, on Sunday. Trailing 31-16 with 2:34 remaining in the third quarter, the Jets mounted a furious rally to earn their third-largest comeback win since 2000.
No. 1 -- RB Breece Hall TD Pass to TE Mason Taylor
With Justin Fields under center at the Cincy 4-yard line, few noticed rookie TE Mason Taylor going in motion. When Fields pitched the ball to Breece Hall, it looked like Taylor was setting up to block in what looked like Hall setting off on a run for the goal line with the ball tucked. Instead Hall pumped once, took it back then lobbed a pass to Taylor. He leaped over Bengals' defender DJ Turner II who had his back to the play. The TD tied the score, then Nick Folk's PAT gave the Jets a lead they did not relinquish. In the game, Hall rushed for 133 yards, ran for 2 TDs, caught 2 passes for 14 yards and tossed his first TD pass since high school.
No. 2 -- Breece Hall Tiptoes to a TD
The fourth quarter opened with the Jets trailing, 31-16. Two plays later Breece Hall's 5-yard run made it 31-24. It was his first TD of the season. Then, down by 14 points with 10:24 to play, Hall's acrobatic 27-yard run as he tiptoed along the sideline to the end zone completed a 5-play, 60-yard drive that took a mere 2:29. Justin Fields' pass to Isaiah Davis got the Jets within 6 points, 38-32.
No. 3 -- RB Isaiah Davis Rambles 50 Yards, Sets Up Nick Folk FG
Down by 11, 24-13, midway through the third quarter, the Jets were backed up deep in their own end. After a first down took the ball to the 25, Justin Fields handed the ball to second-year RB Isaiah Davis, who squeezed between RG Joe Tippmann and rookie RT Armand Membou and scooted a career-long rush of 50 yards along the visiting sideline to the Bengals' 25. When the drive stalled, Nick Folk converted from 24 yards out and the Jets made it a one-score game, 24-16.
No. 4 -- Edge Will McDonald IV Gets Key Third-Down Sack of Joe Flacco
With Cincinnati clinging to a 6-point lead in the fourth quarter, and with the ball, the Jets' defense desperately needed a stop when it counted. On third down, edge Will McDonald IV picked the perfect time to notch his third sack of the season when he made a beeline to QB Joe Flacco on third-and-10 from the Bengals' 28. The defensive stop set the stage for the Jets' eventual game-winning drive.
No. 5 -- QB Justin Fields to WR Tyler Johnson for a First-Half TD
The Jets had not scored an offensive TD in the first half since Week 1 vs. Pittsburgh. On Sunday, trailing by 17-3, with 10:37 left in the first half they embarked on a 9-play, 78-yard drive that took 5:27. From the Bengals' 15, Justin Fields took a hit after sending a perfect touch pass to WR Tyler Johnson for the TD on 4th-and-2. The blitz beater kept the Jets in the game at 17-10.
