The New York Jets have signed wide receiver Raymond Webber and have waived linebacker Matt Berning. The announcements were made by general manager Mike Tannenbaum.
Webber (6'3", 220) originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with Tampa Bay on July 27, 2011. He was placed on injured reserve Sept. 3 before being waived on May 2. He was acquired on waivers by Seattle on May 3, then waived a week later. Before the NFL, Webber caught 101 passes for 1,429 yards and 10 touchdowns during his senior season at Arkansas-Pine Bluff in 2010. Berning (6'0", 236) joined the Jets as an undrafted free agent July 28, 2011, and spent training camp with the team before he was waived Sept. 3. He was added to the practice squad two days later, then released Sept. 13, then was re-signed by the Jets to a reserve-future contract on Jan. 13. Berning, born in Germany, played in 53 games with 35 starts at Central Michigan and earned All-MAC first-team recognition.
