Wednesday Player Interviews

Transcripts of selected interviews with Jets players following Wednesday's afternoon training camp practice:

WR LAVERANUES COLES

On being happy camp is over …

Who wouldn't be? After going through, this is my second time, making it through it is what I would say. I don't really think it's over yet. I have to look at the schedule. We might not be practicing out here [Hofstra fields], but trust me, behind the gates back there, it can get kind of rough.

On surviving camp …

That's exactly what I feel like, surviving Coach's camp. It's a testament to the guys. If anybody can make it through this, I pretty much feel they'll make it through anything.

On being mentally refreshed after moving out of the dorms …

I guess because you don't have to look at your coaches as much because it's a shorter day. With camp, you're there from 7 in the morning to probably 9 at night. You see a lot of the same faces, you're getting cussed at every five to 10 minutes about something, you're trying to learn and trying to get better day in and day out.

On where the Jets wide receivers rank …

That's football. I don't even know how it goes, but I'm sure my position coach [Noel Mazzone] will let me know where we're ranked. I think they do a ranking of receiving corps and I think we're still in the bottom half if I'm not mistaken.

It's just one of those things where we go out and compete. We're a hard-nosed group. We take it as a challenge. All of us, from top to bottom, take pride in going out and trying to do the little things and helping this ballclub win. As long as we're winning, we don't care who's doing what.

On what he looks for when he goes up against a rookie cornerback …

First I look in his eyes to see if he's scared or he's intimidated because I'm standing in front of him first of all. Then, just his stance. Is he going to stand in there, is he going to be soft when the ball is snapped. You try to look for all those little things.

If you're talking about our young guy that we have in, he has all the great qualities of being a great corner in this league. Darrelle [Revis] came in and I just watched him work. I don't really say much to him, but I think he's someone that can really and truly help this ball club. If he continues to work hard, because he's a guy that truly cares about football and being good, he could be one of the better corners in this league. Real soon, sooner than later, trust me.

He's there, he has the confidence of a great corner. I've played against Ty Law, I've worked with Champ Bailey, and he has all of those qualities. He's not afraid to get in and mix it up with anybody. I'm just proud to be on his team and hopefully, as time goes on, we'll be able to work together. He seems like he's a very easy-going guy. He's going to be one of the great ones, trust me.

CB DARRELLE REVIS

On picking up the system …

Right now, this is a learning curve. The only thing I can do is just build on it. That's what I'm going to do day in and day out, just work hard and compete and get as much learning done as I can.

On being a quick learner …

I think I can pick up things quickly. When we're out here practicing, it's just getting the reps so you can visualize and see it. That's what I try to do when I come out here to practice, visualize and see it. Once you hit something in a situation, you'll know how to handle it.

On taking notes about workouts …

Coach always tells us to write down stuff because you're probably going to forget it. That's what I do, I write everything so I can make sure that I'm doing the right thing all the time. This is a new thing to me, being in the NFL, so I want to take advantage of everything.

On whether he took notes while watching the Atlanta game …

Yes, just what I probably would have done in that situation. Coach Mike MacIntyre and Coach Mangini always put us in situations where we'll be watching film and seeing what we would have done in those situations.

On fully realizing he will be playing in the NFL on Saturday …

No, it hasn't hit me. It hasn't hit me yet. Right now, the team and I have just been focused on the Giants and preparing for them. That's the only thing I can think of right now, getting these schemes down for the Giants.

On dreaming of his first NFL game growing up …

I dreamed about being in the NFL. It's something I've always worked hard for. Once you're here, it feels kind of funny. You always look at the NFL logo and you're like, "I'm in the NFL." It's kind of crazy, but after you get comfortable with it, it's just football.

On the on-field differences between college and the NFL …

Everybody's smarter. The game is faster, too. It's not like you can go out here and run three-quarter speed like in college on some plays. Every play is fast. You have to be ready to play.
