Three Defensive Players Waived

The New York Jets have waived linebacker Stafford Gatling, safety DaJuan Morgan and defensive tackle Carlton Powell. The announcement was made by general manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Gatling (6'4", 249) was signed as an undrafted free agent on July 27. He played in 53 games during his career at Ohio University. During his senior year he registered 53 total tackles and was named All-MAC second team.

Morgan (6'0", 203) was selected in the third round (82nd overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft by Kansas City. He played in 30 NFL games (2 starts) with 42 tackles in 2008-10 for the Chiefs and Colts. He was signed by the Jets on Aug. 2.

Powell (6'2", 312) was taken in the fifth round (148th overall) of the 2008 draft by Denver. He spent time on the practice squads of the Broncos and Browns before he was signed as a free agent by the Buccaneers on May 18, 2010. He signed a reserve/future contract with the Jets on Jan. 5.
