TEBOW: A Lot of Different Things in Practice

Transcript of quarterback Tim Tebow's news conference in front of his locker following the Jets' Wednesday afternoon practice at the Atlantic Health Training Center:

On how important the game is on Sunday…

It's a big game. Going into our bye week, a division game will definitely give us momentum going into our break. It's a game we definitely need to win.

On if he expects the Miami game to be as physical as last time…

Absolutely. They're a very good football team. They're coached very well. They do a great job on offense, defense and special teams. They play a team game and they compete for 60 minutes and longer if needed.

On Miami's defense…

They're doing really well against the run, making a lot of plays, keeping teams out of the end zone. They're doing a great job. We really have to be ready with a great game plan.

On the Jets retiring Dennis Byrd's number…

I think it's great for him. I don't really know that much about him, but congratulations to him and everything he meant to the Jets.

On how different the team is from the last time they played Miami…

I feel like we're a much improved team. I feel like we've been getting better every week. I believe we'll continue to do that and this is a good game for us going into our bye week, being able to even things up. It definitely means a lot to us.

On the loss against New England…

It definitely lets you know you can play with anybody and beat them. We didn't play as good of a game as we could have or should have, but we played really well in a lot of areas. You don't play these games to feel great, you play to win. There are not many moral victories, but you do find some confidence.

On the challenges in facing Miami…

I think preparing for some of their pressures and some of the different looks they gave us and different personnel groupings. I think also knowing your players well, which Coach Sparano really does. Being able to execute and being able to get efficient runs early in the game on first down I think would definitely help us this week. Keeping things in manageable situations. They're a really good team at getting off the field on third downs, I think, one of the better teams in the league at that. That's something we'll have to do a good job of when we get to third downs, executing and not letting them make their plays.

On Coach Ryan's comments about having never swept the Dolphins since he has been here…

Yeah. I think we're doing that for the Jets organization this week. Coach Ryan is definitely included in that. At the same time, it is something that he brought up to us.

On what Coach Ryan told the team about sweeping the Dolphins…

He just told us in the team meeting this morning that he's never done it. That's something we get an opportunity to do, and when you have an opportunity to do that in the division it means a lot.

On if it is possible to overthink the game plan…

Sure, you can. You can definitely overthink game plans. That's something that probably happens a lot, but I don't think we're going to do that. We have great coaches that are going to play to our current strengths and let us go out there and play fast.

On if it will be tougher to fool Miami's defense the second time around…

Yes, in some scenarios, but I also feel like a few of the times they've known it was coming and guys up front just did a great job, they just didn't exactly know where. I feel like we just have to keep executing and trusting guys up front that they're going to do a great job. Teams are going to be aware. They're going to see our formations, but we just have to keep adjusting and executing more than anything.

On if they have an opportunity to mix in different plays…

We'll definitely give them different looks, something they have to prepare for and something they have to adjust for, for sure.

On if he feels patient enough that there is a bigger role for him…

I'm trying to work as much as I can in practice, doing a lot of different things. I'm just trying to be as ready as I can at quarterback and whatever else they tell me to do. I'm trying to work hard and do it well.

On if he is encouraged that his multiple roles in practice means there is a bigger role for him down the road…

I definitely work hard with what they ask me to do and I think that changes every week. You just have to be prepared for each week with what they ask you to do that week.

On if standing on the sideline tests his patience…

You want to be able to help your team in any way possible and if your number is called to do that on the field, then that makes me excited. If it's to be someone with a great attitude, enthusiasm and leadership on the sideline, then I'm going to do that as well.

On if he is surprised he hasn't played one full series yet…

I just try to do the best I can with each opportunity.
