OL Matt Slauson
The New York Jets have signed offensive lineman Matt Slauson, their sixth-round draft pick, and have waived cornerback Tyron Brackenridge. The announcements were made by Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum.
Slauson (6'5", 340), selected 193rd overall by the Jets in the draft, played in 48 games at Nebraska, starting 35. He started his senior season at right guard, where he received All-Big 12 first-team honors from the San Antonio Express-News and all-conference second-team recognition from several other outlets.
In 2007, he started at three different positions, including both tackle spots, earning All-Big 12 honorable mention from The Associated Press and All-Big 12 second-team by Rivals.com. He started at right tackle in 2006 for an offense that ranked among the nation's leaders in both rushing and passing and finished 14th in total offense.
Brackenridge (5'11", 189) signed with the Chiefs as a rookie free agent on May 8, 2007. He saw action in 13 games with one start before being placed on injured reserve on Dec, 23. He registered 16 tackles (13 solo), one forced fumble and one fumble recovery, which he returned 50 yards for a touchdown at San Diego on Sept. 30.
He attended training camp with the Chiefs in 2008 but was waived Aug. 31. He signed with the Jets on Feb. 19.
