REVIS: We Need This Win in Miami

Transcript of cornerback Darrelle Revis' news conference in front of his locker following the Jets' Thursday afternoon practice at the Atlantic Health Training Center:

On how he feels…

I feel good.

On how confident he is about playing on Sunday…

I'm playing Sunday.

On if he passed the concussion tests this morning…

Yeah, the doctors cleared me, so I'll be playing Sunday.

On if he has to take more tests…

No, I got cleared, so I'll be playing.

On if he was told to take it easy…

No, I can bang my head on the wall if I want to. [laughter]

On how he felt during practice…

I felt rusty after the practice, full-contact. There's still protocol we have to follow. I couldn't engage anybody yesterday. They couldn't touch me as well. Usually if you're injured, you have to wear the red jersey, and I told them I didn't want to wear it. I felt like I could play full-contact Wednesday. Today, it felt good. I actually got a couple jams in on press. I got physical with some guys, so it was good. It was good today. I felt good. Contact actually felt good today, hitting guys, and guys were able to hit back.

On if he got the feeling he was going to be cleared for Miami…

I didn't know. Everything is very day-to-day. One day you can feel like you're 100 percent, another, you can not feel like you're 100 percent. With these concussions, you have to consistently feel 100 percent every day. So I could have a good night's rest and come in the next day with a headache. What the doctors are looking for is that you come in consistently in the morning 100 percent day-to-day.

On if he is relieved he is cleared…

Yes, so I can go back to my job and continue to just play for the rest of the season.

On if the defense missed him while he was out…

I'm just one guy. We have 10 other guys there on defense. I'm just happy to be back. I'm willing to do my job as I always do and that's to compete and play.

On Miami's receivers…

They still have two great receivers in [Brian] Hartline and [Davone] Bess. [Ryan] Tannehill, his go-to-guy is Hartline. He looks for him a lot. On third downs, he looks for Davone Bess. We're familiar with those guys. Our secondary is familiar with them. We played them the last couple of years. We feel pretty good coming into this Sunday and we're going to compete. We will compete.

On the game plan for Sunday…

We have a great game plan this upcoming Sunday. Just watch and see.

On the challenge of playing in the Miami heat…

It's a really big challenge for us. We've been very proactive in coming out here and practicing very up-tempo, a lot of no-huddle stuff in practice, too, to handle this on Sunday. It's going to be hot. I remember last year in the game, our last game, it was very hot. I remember needing to come out some times because it was so hot and I wasn't feeling well. We understand that and I think guys have been doing extra conditioning and certain things so it won't be.

On the expectations for the defense…

I'm just coming back. The only thing I can say is that our expectations are still high as a defense. Right now, I'm excited to be back, to be part of the defense trying to dominate as we always do playing.

On if Miami has tendencies that he has picked up on…

Yeah, but I can't tell you them. We all have tendencies. You have to study and prepare.

On if he goes back to college video to study a rookie QB like Tannehill…

No, you just go by the games that he's played. You can't really go off his college stuff. Guys look back at that, they do, but it's not in my preparation. I look at the games he has played in the NFL. It's different competition and it's very competitive.

On what the Miami game means…

This is a division game for us. We know what it means. We want to go down there and win. That's our goal. It's a division game. This is a must-win for us. We need this win. The expectations for us are high to go down there and win.

On the upcoming games against the 49ers and Texans…

We're focused on this game right here. It's a division game. It's important for us to get this game. Our goal is always trying to clinch the division and that's what we're trying to do this Sunday.
