Jets 2012 Regular Season To Kick Off with Curtis Martin Day, Featuring Retirement of No. 28 Jersey

Team Announces Additional Plans to Celebrate the Third Ring of Honor Class with a Ceremony on October 8 and the retirement of the #90 Jersey of Dennis Byrd on October 28

The Jets announced today plans to honor 2012 Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Curtis Martin at the opening game of the regular season against the Buffalo Bills on September 9. The team will retire Martin's No. 28 jersey in a ceremony at halftime. Fans attending the game will receive a commemorative towel. Curtis Martin Day will cap off a celebration of Martin's Pro Football Hall of Fame induction on August 4. Curtis Martin Day is being presented by Toyota and JetBlue.

Also, the team announced that on October 8, when the Houston Texans head to MetLife Stadium, the 2012 class of Jets greats will be inducted into the team's Ring of Honor in a halftime ceremony. The Ring of Honor was introduced by the team in 2010 and each year inductees are selected by an internal committee led by Woody Johnson. Weeb Ewbank, Winston Hill, Joe Klecko, Curtis Martin, Don Maynard, Joe Namath, Larry Grantham, Freeman McNeil, Gerry Philbin and Al Toon are the current members of the Ring of Honor. The 2012 class will be announced at a later date in advance of the October 8 game. The Jets-Texans game is being presented by Hess.

At halftime of the Jets-Dolphins game on October 28, the Jets will honor Dennis Byrd with the retirement of his No. 90 jersey. Byrd, a defensive end, was selected by the Jets in the 1989 draft and recorded 27 sacks in his first three seasons, a number bettered by only two players in their first three seasons in Jets history. Byrd's #90 jersey has not been worn since he suffered his career-ending injury and will be officially retired in this halftime ceremony. The Jets-Dolphins game is being presented by Toyota.
