Position Reset for '25

The Jets running backs room will feature familiar faces as Breece Hall returns for his fourth season and second-year players Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis will look to build on their strong rookie campaigns.

Hall led all Jets running backs with 1,359 total yards and 8 touchdowns last season, but the dual-threat tailback noted he went "back to the drawing board" this spring to focus on elevating his game. OC Tanner Engstrand has been impressed with his versatility and attention to detail, noting he "comes to work, works hard" and "leads by example."

"I know what I can do," Hall said. "I know the potential I have, but potential only goes so far. I want to be a product. I want to be able to say that I've done everything I wanted to do."

Hall will look for increased production as part of the three-man attack that Engstrand and HC Aaron Glenn have spoken about using this season.

"I think all three [are] going to play," Engstrand said of Hall, Allen and Davis. "Those top three guys, they're all pretty darn good football players and they all have a little bit of a different skillset you can see just by watching them. We'll see how the gameplan goes, but they'll all be involved in one way, shape or form."

Glenn was impressed throughout OTAs with the "big, physical men" in the RB stable.

"I don't know if there are three backs in this league that have the potential like these three," Glenn said. "Maybe there is, but I know I'm just focusing on what we have. I'm excited about the guys that we have here."

The running backs room also features Donovan Edwards, an undrafted free agent out of Michigan, and Zach Evans, a second-year player who joined the Green & White last December. Veteran Kene Nwangwu, who made an impact as a returner (99-yard TD in Week 13 vs. SEA) during two appearances for the Jets last season, is also in the mix.

Storyline to Watch

Can the sophomore duo of Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis build on last season's promise?

While Hall headlines the running backs room heading into the 2025 season, Allen and Davis are expected to be large contributors following their strong rookie campaigns.

Allen, a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft, played in all 17 games for the Jets in the 2024 season. He totaled 482 yards and 3 touchdowns and hopes to add to that production this season.

"I think I just want to make my impact felt in every way that I can," he said. … "Hopefully the dose of offense increases more and more. [I] just want to do my part as best as I can."

Though Allen, a bruiser at 6-1, 235, was No. 2 behind Hall last season, 2024 fifth-round pick Isaiah Davis took advantage of the opportunity when his number was called late in the season. He stepped in for Hall in Week 14 and rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown, and he also added 3 receptions for 27 yards. Throughout the final weeks of the 2024 season, the versatile South Dakota State product's increased workload showed his potential to be an integral part of the offensive attack.

"I think our ceiling is very high," Hall said of the running backs room. … "We have really good, healthy competition, and we're all pushing each other to get better every day. It's going to be fun."

What They're Saying

Braelon Allen on the Jets' running backs room: "We're definitely going to be violent. We're all big, physical guys. We know that's our power, that's our strength. Obviously, everybody has their own kind of secret sauce. When you combine that physicality with those special talents that we all have, it can be very dangerous. I'm excited to put it on display."

RB Trivia

Breece Hall, Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis combined for a level of versatility that Jets backs hadn't displayed in the previous 34 seasons. All three had at least one rushing touchdown and one receiving TD — Hall led the way with 5 rush scores and 3 receiving scores, followed by the rookies, Allen (2 and 1) and Davis (1 and 1). The last time the Jets had 3 RBs with at least one rush TD and one receiving TD in the same season was 1989, when Roger Vick (5 and 2), Johnny Hector (3 and 2) and Freeman McNeil (2 and 1) combined for the RB trifecta.
