Jets Release DL Leonard Taylor III

Green & White Sign WR Trenton Irwin to Practice Squad, Release RB Avery Williams from P-Squad

The Jets have released DL Leonard Taylor III. The team also signed WR Trenton Irwin to the practice squad and released RB Avery Williams.

Taylor (6-3, 305) signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Miami in May of 2024, and he made the initial 53-man roster as a rookie last season. Taylor appeared in 14 games in 2024, recording 24 total tackles, 4 TFLs, 4 quarterback hits and 1.5 sacks. He has appeared in 2 games for the Jets this season, recording 3 total tackles, 1 TFL and 1 pass defense.

Irwin (6-2, 204) originally signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Stanford in 2019. After being released by the team in August of that year, he was signed to the Bengals' practice squad in October and spent the next 6 seasons in Cincinnati. Irwin appeared in 41 games, 16 of which were during the 2023 season, and he has recorded 46 receptions for 601 yards and 5 TDs over his career. He had a brief stint with the Carolina Panthers' practice squad last season, and he spent this past summer with the Jacksonville Jaguars before he was released in August.

Williams (5-9, 195) was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He has appeared in 50 games during his pro career, primarily as a returner. Williams led the NFL in average yards per punt return in 2022 (16.2). He was signed by the Eagles in March before he was released in August, and he was added to the Jets' practice squad on Oct. 3. Williams was elevated to the Jets' active roster for Week 5, and he returned 4 punts for 41 yards and 5 kicks for 133 yards against the Cowboys.
