The Jets announced that they have placed QB Geno Smith on injured reserve and signed LB Taiwan Jones.

Smith suffered an ACL tear during the second quarter of the Jets' 24-16 win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 7.  The 26-year-old Smith, who has made 30 career starts, appeared in a relief role against the Cardinals in Week 6 and then made his first start of the season this past Sunday.  He completed four of eight passes against the Ravens including a 69-yard scoring toss to WR Quincy Enunwa. A second-round pick in 2013, the West Virginia product has completed 57.9% of his passes for 5,962 yards with 28 TDs and 36 INTs.

The 6'3", 252-pound Jones was on the Jets' practice squad for 14 weeks last season and was active but did not play in the last three games. During the preseason, Jones totaled 14 tackles and four PDs. He had an interception and two PDs in the club's preseason finale at Philadelphia.
