HC Aaron Glenn announced Friday that WR Garrett Wilson will not play for the remainder of the 2025 season.
"He will be ready to go as offseason programs start up, and I'm excited about that," Glenn said, adding "We just felt it was best for him and for us as a team."
Wilson, who did not miss a contest during his first three seasons with the Jets, was placed on injured reserve after re-injuring his knee in a Week 10 win over the Cleveland Browns. The fourth-year player missed two consecutive contests in Weeks 7 and 8 with the initial injury after starting the first 6 games of the season.
Before his injury, Wilson led the Jets with 36 receptions, 395 receiving yards and 4 receiving TDs, which all ranked in the top 10 in the NFL at that time. Prior to this season, Wilson became the fifth player in NFL history to start a career with 80-plus receptions and 1,000-plus receiving yards in three consecutive seasons.
"He's on board," Glenn said of Wilson. "He's doing really, really well as far as his rehab. We want to be smart with him because he's a key cog into what we're doing here. To be able to get him back in the offseason programs fully healthy and ready to go -- we just felt this was the best decision for all of us."
'He Fits What They Are Trying to Do'
Aaron Glenn is familiar with the rookie QB the Jets will face on Sunday. The head coach shared Friday that prior to the 2025 NFL Draft, Tyler Shough was one of the players the Green & White brought to 1 Jets Drive for a "30 visit."
"He's an older rookie that came in, so the conversations were somewhat different than a true rookie of age," Glenn said. "… He's been through a lot of adversity, and so it doesn't surprise me that he's playing the way he's playing right now."
Shough, 26, is 3 and 3 in his 6 starts for the Saints this season. His 69.0 completion percentage as a starter ranks third in the NFL since Week 9, and he is one of 6 QBs with 6-plus passing TDs and 2-plus rushing TDs since Week 9.
"He was a guy that was on our list," Glenn said. "He's a good player; we all know that. And I think he fits what they are trying to do very well."
More Reps for The Clarks
The Jets have had many shuffling pieces in the secondary this season, with 13 different players taking snaps in the defensive backfield.
Two of those players are undrafted free agents Dean Clark and Jordan Clark, who have made their way to the active roster and should be in line for game action again on Sunday.
"I'm excited for all those guys getting a chance to play as rookies and getting their feet wet as far as everything that we're trying to do on defense," Glenn said. "… As many reps as they can get when it comes to practicing, when it comes to game -- it only helps us. It helps us, too, as far as the evaluation process."
Dean Clark, who played collegiately for Kent State and Fresno State, has appeared in 9 games this season, playing 36 defensive snaps -- 31 of which were in Week 15 -- and 139 special teams snaps. He has recorded 6 total tackles.
Jordan Clark, an Arizona State and Notre Dame product, has appeared in 3 contests and played 60 defensive snaps and 31 special teams snaps. He played 45 defensive snaps (72.6%) in Week 15 against Jacksonville.
