HS Coach of the Week: Jim Giattino, Bay Shore

The New York Jets announced today that Jim Giattino of Bay Shore (N.Y.) High School has been named this week's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award. For his efforts, Giattino will receive $1,000 to benefit the school's football program and will be presented with a certificate from the Jets.

The award, in its 16th year, is given to coaches in the tristate area who serve the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.

Coach Giattino is in his sixth year as head coach of the Marauders and in his 22nd year overall. Giattino got his initial coaching job at his alma mater, Bellport High School. He was part of the coaching staff of Bellport's two Long Island Championship teams, in 1992 and '97. In addition to his coaching duties, Giattino, a special education teacher, is in his 17th year at Bay Shore.

On Saturday, Bay Shore upset the William Floyd Colonials, the defending Suffolk 1 champions, 24-7. The Marauders started the year 0-4 and are now 4-4, clinching a playoff spot with this victory. The Marauders will face the Longwood Lions in the Section XI Division I playoffs on Friday, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m.
