The Jets announced today that they have signed RB Mike Goodson.

Last season, Goodson played 12 games with the Raiders and averaged 6.3 yards per carry and added 16 receptions.  A fourth-round pick of the Carolina Panthers in the 2009 NFL Draft, Goodson set personal bests with Carolina in 2010 with 454 yards on the ground and 40 receptions.

The signing of Goodson comes a day after Shonn Greene inked a deal with the Tennessee Titans.  Greene was the Jets' leading rusher each of the past two seasons, but the team is moving to a West Coast attack under Marty Mornhinweg.  On a recent episode of "Jets Talk LIVE", the Jets OC was asked about whether he plans on using the backs more in the passing game.

"If our backs have that talent, you will certainly see that a little bit more than you have in the past," he said.

The 6'0", 210-pound Goodson, a Texas A&M product, is a burner and he also has experience returning kicks.   He joins a backfield that also includes Bilal Powell, Joe McKnight and John Griffin.  Goodson, who was born in Irvington, NJ, becomes the second player added with North Jersey roots this week as the Jets signed David Garrard (East Orange) on Monday.

The Jets also re-signed FB Lex Hilliard on Thursday.
