Geno Smith Nominated for Rookie of the Week

Geno Smith has been nominated for the Pepsi NEXT Rookie of the Week award. Again.

The rookie QB led the Jets past the Cleveland Browns with a two-through-the-air, one-on-the-ground, three-TD, no-interception game at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. His 91.7 passer rating was the second-highest of his 15-game career, behind only his close-to-perfect 147.7 rating Week 5 at Atlanta.

For those counting, that's nomination No. 6 for the man in uniform No. 7, and by now you probably know the drill. You have until Friday at 3 p.m. to vote for Geno, and can do so by clicking here.

Head coach Rex Ryan described Smith's Sunday performance as "tremendous," but of course it wouldn't have been possible without the help of an equally tremendous offensive line.

"I felt pretty comfortable back there in the pocket," Smith said Sunday. "The offensive line did a great job keeping guys off me. I was able to step up all day long, had great throwing lanes, was able to have clean vision in the pocket and it was good to come out of this game with no sacks or turnovers and I think we had for the most part plenty of positive plays, not many negative plays. So whenever you have that as an offense, it's always going to be a good game."

Smith's competition this week includes Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell, Buffalo Bills CB Nickell Robey, St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy and Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy.

Only Lacy boasts more Rookie of the Week nominations than Smith, leading seven to six, while Chargers WR Keenan Allen is the lone repeat winner this season. Geno won the award for his three-TD, no-turnover Monday Night Football win over the Falcons.
