The Jets announced tonight that they have signed seventh-round rookie safety Antonio Allen out of South Carolina to their practice squad.
Allen fills the eighth and final berth available on the practice squad. The Jets announced Saturday their first seven signings to the squad: T Paul Cornick, LBs Marcus Dowtin and Ricky Sapp, DB Donnie Fletcher, WRs Royce Pollard and Jordan White, and TE Hayden Smith.
With the addition of Allen, the Jets at this time have retained three-quarters of their 2012 draft class. Four members of the eight-member class — first-round DE Quinton Coples, second-round WR Stephen Hill, third-round LB Demario Davis and sixth-rounder Josh Bush — are on the 53-man active/inactive squad. Two more — Allen and seventh-round WR Jordan White — are on the practice squad.
Sixth-rounders Terrance Ganaway and Robert Griffin were waived Friday. Ganaway was awarded on waivers to the St. Louis Rams. Griffin has yet to be signed. Typically, sixth- and seventh-round draft picks go back and forth from the active roster to the practice squad.
