8 Observations from Practice

A Trio of Veterans Return, Jets Have Uneven Day

Offensive POD: It's not quite how they draw it up in the offensive meeting room, but the result was pretty nonetheless. In a team drill, Bryce Petty threw into the end zone and it appeared LB Julian Stanford was going to intercept the ball. But after Stanford couldn't control the rock, it suddenly took a turn into the waiting hands of TE Wes Saxton.

Defensive POD: Fourth round-pick Juston Burris wouldn't let Brandon Marshall get too much separation as the perennial Pro Bowl wideout raced down the field. Ryan Fitzpatrick tried to get it to Marshall, but Burris closed, established good position underneath and hauled in the pass. After the pick, the NC State product turned upfield for a long return.

Sluggish Effort:After an off day, Jets head coach Todd Bowles said his club was "sluggish" on both sides of the ball. Fitzpatrick went further and said the Jets cannot afford to waste days and the Green & White's fifth session of camp was more bad than good.

Marshall Boot: Frustrated after a competitive period went to the defense, Brandon Marshall booted a ball over the bleachers. Marshall, who came up with a terrific reception in traffic earlier in practice, doesn't like losing at anything.

Return of Revis & Richardson: On the bright side, CB Darrelle Revis participated in a few 11-on-11 plays as the Jets continue to bring him back slowly from offseason wrist surgery. After an excused absence at the start of camp, DL Sheldon Richardson was back in Florham Park and practiced with his teammates. Richardson racked up a strip-sack of Geno Smith during today's session. * *Matt Forté (hamstring) is gradually doing more, participating in drills with the RB group.

Carpenter Active: After coming off the PUP list, LG James Carpenter was on the practice field for the first time this summer. "Big Carp" did get in a few team plays as the Jets shuffled their line combinations today. Reserve OL Wesley Johnson got some reps at center with the first team.

Reps for RBs: With Forté still out and Bernard Pierce also on the sideline with a hamstring injury, the RB reps were divided up amongst Bilal Powell, 1st-year pro Dominique Williams and rookie Romar Morris. The latter two will sleep well tonight.

PUP List: RT Breno Giacomini (back), DB Kendall James, RB Khiry Robinson (leg), WR Devin Smith (knee) & DL Muhammad Wilkerson (leg).
