6 Practice Takeaways

Offense Has a Day in the Sun, Williams Finishes with Power

Offensive POD: Brandon Marshall is almost an impossible cover in 1-on-1 situations. On Wednesday afternoon, rookie CB Juston Burris stepped up to line of scrimmage across from Marshall. The rookie attempted to get a jam at the line, but the veteran quickly discarded him with a club and the thoroughbred Marshall was off to the races. Ryan Fitzpatrick led Marshall and No. 15 hauled in the pass with his fingertips before finishing in the end zone on a pass play that covered 40 yards.  The runner-up goes to:

Defensive POD: Often during camp, Bilal Powell has found space when little room was available and exploded to make the most of his runs. But DT Steve McLendon showcased his lateral footwork and helped corral Powell near the line of scrimmage on one red zone carry.  But Powell can hurt you in so many ways as you will see below.

Quarterbacks Shine: Both of the Jets' top two quarterbacks found the airwaves friendly today. Fitz came out hot and he never really cooled off. Smith can make any throw in the book and he displayed his range on two particular throws – rolling out and delivering a strike to rookie Robby Anderson and then later standing back in the pocket and displaying his accuracy on a toss over the middle to TE Jace Amaro.

Runway Train: In goal line work, 1st-year player Dominique Williams sniffed the end zone and had no plans on being denied. Rookie LB Darron Lee felt the brunt of the express as Williams was able to punch it in from short yardage.  Williams has gotten plenty of reps throughout camp as the Jets continue to work without Matt Forte (hamstring), Bernard Pierce (hamstring) and Khiry Robinson (leg, PUP). The 5'9", 205-pounder has received plenty of punishment in pads including a throwdown from DL Leonard Williams tpday. and he decided to deliver a counterpunch late in today's session.

Getting Fortified: With James Carpenter back participating in team drills for a second consecutive day and getting more work, the Jets O-Line has four of its five starters back in the rotation. Both Ben Ijalana and Brent Qwale continue to get some work in at RT with Breno Giacomini on the PUP list. The Jets dialed CB (wrist) back today as our Randy Lange reports.

PUP List: RT Breno Giacomini (back), RB Khiry Robinson (leg), WR Devin Smith (knee) & DL Muhammad Wilkerson (leg).
