The groom casts a sidelong glance

Defensive tackle Kris Jenkins had an eventful summer, and not just because of training camp in Cortland, N.Y.

On July 11 Jenkins was married to his long-time sweetheart, Tashia Gaskins, in the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, D.C.

"The first time I met Tashia was when she was in high school and I was a freshman at Maryland," Jenkins told newyorkjets.com. "She happened to be there on a school trip and we were just talking trash back and forth. I was messing with her because I told her, 'You're too young. I can't talk to you. You're in high school.'

"It was funny because after that I hadn't seen her in four years. Then I saw her at a graduation party and we ended up talking."

The rest is history.

Almost 300 were in attendance at the wedding, including Jenkins' D-line coach, Kerry Locklin. The couple were able to arrange for one of their favorite artists, Amel Larrieux, to serenade them as they walked down the aisle.

The reception was also a wonderful success. The couple had a band play during the event, which allowed for everyone to enjoy each other's company and celebrate. You can share in some of the events of that day with the slideshow that accompanies this story. All photos were taken by Davide De Pas.

For their honeymoon, Kris and Tashia spent 10 days in the Bahamas. The weather is much different there than at SUNY Cortland, where the Jets training camp began on July 31, just 20 days after their marriage.

"With me being married, I'm not looking to get in trouble and it's not about all of that for me, so just to come out here and be able to relax and get football in perspective," said Jenkins, who still got some visits from his new bride and their children. "I miss my family right now, but this is something I need to do."
