The Jets have signed veteran placekicker Nick Folk.
Folk, 40, previously played 7 seasons (2010-16) for the Green & White, appearing in 104 games. Over that span, he converted on 175-of-213 field-goal attempts (82.2%) and made 204-of-206 extra-point attempts (99%). His 729 points are No. 2 on the Jets' career list, trailing only Pat Leahy's 1,470 points compiled over his 18 seasons (1974-91) and 260 games with the only NFL team he kicked for.
In his first season with the Jets, Folk became the first Jets kicker since Leahy in 1984 to convert on 5 field-goal attempts in a home win over Minnesota on Oct. 11. In the next game, in the rarefied air at Denver, he set a team record when he connected on a 56-yard field-goal attempt in a 24-20 win that upped the team's record to 5-1. That mark was eclipsed by Chandler Catanzaro's 57-yarder in 2017, which was then eclipsed by Greg Zuerlein's 60-yarder in 2022.
Later in the 2010 season, in which the Jets advanced to the AFC Championship game, Folk kicked the winning field goal at Indianapolis with 3 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to give New York the 17-16 win and a ticket to the conference title game at Pittsburgh the next week.
Folk appeared in all 16 games during his first five seasons with the Jets, but sustained a season-ending quad injury against Jacksonville on Nov. 10, 2015. He missed the rest of the season, but returned in the next season, his final one with the Jets, playing in 16 games.
In his career, Folk has played for Dallas (2007-09), the Jets, Tampa Bay (2017), New England (2019-22) and the past two seasons with Tennessee. Over his career, Folk ranked No. 28 in league history in field-goal percentage (84.31%). Over his career, he has converted on 403-of-478 attempts (84.3%) and is 511-of-528 on extra-point attempts (96.8). He tied a career best last season with the Titans, connected from 56 yards against Houston on Nov. 24.
Folk, a native of Los Angeles, was selected by the Cowboys in the sixth round (No. 178 overall) out of Arizona in the 2007 NFL Draft. He went to the Pro Bowl that season after converting 26-of-31 in field goal attempts and making all 53 extra points, breaking the Cowboys' single-season points record (131) for a placekicker.
