Dyson: Stats Don't Tell Everything

Dyson sees the Jets improving on a weekly basis

In week three, the Jets' defense saw quarterback J.P. Losman and running back Willis McGahee both reach career-highs. McGahee ran for 150 yards, the best total in his three-year career. Losman passed for 328 yards, which up to that point was the best in his career as well. Despite the impressive stats, the Bills lost the game by eight points and the Jets picked up their first division victory of the season.

"Stats don't tell everything," said cornerback Andre Dyson. "I don't know if the yardage has anything to do with the game. If you look at it, it was two, two-minute drives and those yards add on. It was the same thing in the Houston game - we gave up a lot of passing yards, but you go into the fourth quarter when we were playing regular defense and just sitting back to let the clock run out. Yards don't mean anything. The bottom line is the score and if you win games."

New York Jets' TE Chris Baker, 12.8

On his improved receiving game…

Coach Richie Anderson helped me out a lot in the passing game. I try to take a lot of his coaching points and make the best of it. It's paying off for me right now.

On his success against Green Bay's defense…

They played a lot of man-coverage and they also decided to double team Laveranues Coles and try to take him out of the game. I knew I had a lot of opportunities and it was more of a conscious effort to get me involved in the passing game.

On what it does for Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery when he can get involved…

Hopefully, it takes a little pressure off of them. That's one game [Green Bay] and hopefully, I can have a few more games like that. It depends week-to-week, what we decide to do as an offense.

On his development process from his rookie year…

When I came in, I was under a different coordinator and a different system. It was a system where blocking was more emphasized in the game for the tight ends. I just tried to go out and improve on that, because when I came out in the draft they said that was my weak point, that I couldn't block. I just tried to go out and improve on that and as the opportunities came in the passing game, I tried to take advantage of them. Obviously, I've played a lot of games and I know more than I did back then. Overall, just working on different things and parts of my game to try and have no weaknesses in my game.

New York Jets' S Kerry Rhodes, 12.8

On playing Buffalo for the second time…

It's a totally different game. Different games have different identities, so it's not going to be the same thing that happened the first time. They're playing a lot better right now; J.P. Losman is playing a lot better than he did in the beginning, he's making the right adjustments and he's got the team rolling in the right direction. It's going to be tough in that aspect.

On a second look at Willis McGahee…

He's been running hard against us since I've been here. We definitely want to be handling him and stopping him, he's the guy we want to stop.

New York Jets' CB Andre Dyson, 12.8

On how he is different…

We just got better, I don't think we changed our style. Just like I said, we get better each week and we get more comfortable each week.

On a good game against Green Bay carrying over to this week…

We have to take every week the same no matter if we had a bad week or a great week. We have to treat the next week as a new week and like I said, learn from the mistakes, learn from the good plays and try to get better week-in and week-out.

On if he was concerned after giving up a lot of yards early in the season…

No, because stats don't tell everything. I don't know if the yardage has anything to do with the game. If you look at it, it was two, two-minute drives and those yards add on. It was the same thing in the Houston game, we gave up a lot of passing yards, but you go into the fourth quarter when we were playing regular defense and just sitting back to let the clock run out. Yards don't mean anything. The bottom line is the score and if you win games.
