Sam Darnold, Juggled WR Unit to Take On Green Bay Today

Today is the final home game of Sam Darnold's rookie season as the Jets' starting quarterback. And in trying to defeat Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers at MetLife Stadium, he'll be working with another tweaked wide receivers roster.

As announced Friday, Quincy Enunwa (ankle) has been deactivated. He wasn't available last week, either, when Darnold and the Jets fell at home to Houston, 29-22. Rishard Matthews was in uniform for the Texans but he suffered a hamstring injury in that game and was placed on Injured Reserve this past week.

As a result, rookie WR Deontay Burnett, Darnold's former teammate at Southern Cal, who hasn't played in five weeks (four times inactive, one DNP), is active for this afternoon's game (1:02 p.m. ET kickoff).

But there are some familiar names for Darnold to play pitch and catch with, chief among them Robby Anderson, who has reemerged after his own midseason ankle woes. In the past two games Anderson has caught 11 passes for 172 yards, two touchdowns and four receptions of 20-plus yards. Also available are Jermaine Kearse, Andre Roberts and Charone Peake, not to mention the Jets' tight end group, topped by rookie Chris Herndon (32 catches, 412 yards, three TDs).

On defense, LB Jordan Jenkins (ankle) and S Darryl Roberts (toe) were listed as questionable for the Packers and LB Kevin Pierre-Louis (shoulder) was doubtful. Both Jenkins and Roberts will be active and are expected to start against Rodgers and the Packers offense. Pierre-Louis will be inactive.

Two linebackers could make their Jets debuts today: Anthony Wint, signed off the practice squad, and Emmanuel Lamur, the seventh-year man acquired on waivers from Oakland.

The Jets' full inactive list for the Packers:

  • QB Davis Webb
  • CB Derrick Jones
  • S Jeremy Clark
  • LB Kevin Pierre-Louis
  • T Eric Smith
  • WR Quincy Enunwa
  • DL Folorunso Fatukasi

And the Packers' inactives:

  • QB Tim Boyle
  • WR Allen Lazard
  • WR Randall Cobb
  • G Nico Siragusa
  • T Jason Spriggs
  • LB Kendall Donnerson
  • DL Kenny Clark

The Jets are wearing their green jerseys and white pants today. They are 8-12 in the 20 previous games they wore green and white since Todd Bowles became head coach in 2015, including their most recent success in green/white, the wild 38-31 win over Kansas City in December 2017.

Ron Torbert is the referee today for his sixth Jets game since 2014.
