
The Jets have signed RB Avery Williams to the practice squad. The team also released RB Lawrance Toafili.
Williams (5-9, 195) was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. The Boise State product was initially drafted as a cornerback, but he was moved to running back during his second pro season. Williams has appeared in 49 games during his pro career, primarily as a returner. He led the NFL in average yards per punt return in 2022 (16.2), and he has returned 58 punts for 630 yards throughout his career. Williams has also returned 54 kicks for 1211 yards, averaging 22.4 yards per return. He was signed by the Eagles in March before he was released by the team in August.
Toafili (5-11, 194), who initially signed with the Jets on July 29, rushed 15 times for 79 yards in the preseason. He had a 19-yard scoring run in the summer finale against the Eagles. The Florida State product rushed 340 times for 1,895 yards (5.6 per) and 15 TDs in his college career. Toafili has had two brief stints with the Jets' practice squad this season, and he was most recently added to the p-squad on Sept. 24.
