Jets Awarded LB Cam Jones, OT Esa Pole and TE Jelani Woods

Team Waives LB Zaire Barnes, G Marquis Hayes; Releases WR Tyler Johnson

Waiver Claims Thumb

After initial 53-man rosters were finalized across the league Tuesday, the Jets went to the waiver wire and were awarded three players -- LB Cam Jones, OT Esa Pole and TE Jelani Woods. The team waived LB Zaire Barnes and G Marquis Hayes and released WR Tyler Johnson in its corresponding move.

Jones (6-2, 227) enters his third season in the league after spending the last two years in Kansas City. The Indiana product initially joined the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and has primarily contributed on special teams. He appeared in all 34 regular season games from 2023-24 as well as 4 postseason contests, including last season's Super Bowl.

"Very productive player," HC Aaron Glenn said of Jones. "Looking forward to him getting with this linebacker crew and really making noise on special teams for us."

Pole (6-5, 323) was signed by the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in May. The Washington State product allowed just 9 total pressures without a sack on 498 pass-blocking snaps during his final collegiate season, earning him Pro Football Focus' eighth best pass-blocking grade among all tackles in the 2025 class. Pole did not allow a single pressure during preseason competition with the Chiefs.

"Developmental guy that I think has a lot of tools," Glenn said. "Looking forward to working with him."

Woods (6-7, 253) was selected by the Indianapolis Colts out of Virginia in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He appeared in 15 games during his rookie season, recording 25 receptions for 312 yards and 3 touchdowns. Woods missed the 2023 and the 2024 seasons with hamstring and turf toe injuries. He recorded 7 receptions for 75 yards during three preseason contests with the Colts this summer.

"Huge tight end that's going to help us as a blocker and as a receiver," Glenn said.

Glenn added of the group: "Looking forward to these guys getting here. This is still a fluid process, going through a lot of things right now. But I like exactly how we handled this process."

Barnes (6-1, 227) was selected by the Jets in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The Western Michigan product appeared in four games during his rookie season, and he missed the entirety of the 2024 season with an ankle injury.

Hayes (6-5, 318) was signed by the Jets in June after being released by the Packers in May. Originally taken by the Cardinals out of Oklahoma in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Hayes spent three seasons in Arizona but did not appear in a game. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve before he was waived after the following training camp and re-signed to the practice squad. He also had a stint with the Commander's practice squad last season.

Johnson (6-1, 208) was signed by the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in March. The Minnesota product was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. A final cut by Tampa Bay in August 2022, he signed with Houston for the '22 season, was waived in October and returned to the Bucs via their practice squad. After a brief offseason stop with Las Vegas, he signed with the Los Angeles Rams for 2023-24. Johnson has played in 49 NFL games and has 76 receptions for 828 yards (10.9 yards/catch) and 4 touchdowns across five seasons.
