Jets Celebrating 39th Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day

To celebrate the 39th Annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the New York Jets are taking a look back at their continued support of girls flag football. Since launching girls flag football at the varsity level with the PSAL in 2011, to expanding their international flag football programs in 2026, the Jets have consistently grown the game over the last 15 years, and are committed to making even greater strides in advancing women's sports in 2026 and beyond.

2011

The Jets became the first NFL team to help launch girls flag football at the varsity level with the Public School Athletic League in New York City. Since it's inception, the league has grown from 19 to over 60 teams.

2021

Jets and Nike founded the first High School Girls Flag Football League in New Jersey, supported by Gatorade.

NJ High School - 2021

2022

Jets and Nike created New York High School Girls Flag Football Leagues on Long Island, supported by Gatorade.

Long Island - 2022

2023

Introduced the Jets UK Girls Flag Football League, the first NFL-supported Girls Flag League in the UK. The next year, the league's attendance increased to 260 girls across 21 schools.

Jets and Nike create New York High School Girls Flag Football Leagues in the Hudson Valley, supported by Gatorade.

2025

The Jets created Jets Flag Elite, the organization's official girls flag football club travel team.

Jets Flag Elite Launch - 2025

Jets formed the first-ever NFL Girls Flag League in Ireland with eight teams, the first flag league of its kind in the country.

In October, the Jets launched the Jets Flag Elite 14U travel team, which began play in the fall.

Jets UK Girls Flag Champion Ealing Fields won the NFL Flag Championship Europe at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

UK Flag Champions - 2025

Following a $1 Million donation from the Betty Wold Johnson Foundation, the Jets and the Eastern College Athletic Conference founded the Jets ECAC Women's Flag Football League, the largest collegiate women's flag football league in the country.

2026

The Jets will expand their international flag football programs, growing the Jets UK Girls Flag League to 32 teams and the NFL Girls Flag League in Ireland to 16 teams, a 50 percent increase.
