Wednesday Player Interviews (9/12)

Transcripts of interviews with selected Jets during the locker room media period before Wednesday's practice:

LB JONATHAN VILMA

On the NFL's investigation into whether the Patriots videotaped Jets defensive coaches Sunday ...

I'm not worried about it at all. It's a league matter now and we are trying to get a win and not go to 0-2. We are worrying about Baltimore and what we are going to do against those guys.

On Baltimore QBs Steve McNair and Kyle Boller …

We have seen both of them and we know what they can do. Steve can make all of the throws and Kyle can make all of the throws as well. Kyle is a little bit more athletic at this stage than Steve is.

On stopping Ravens RB Willis McGahee …

We have to tackle him. We know what kind of runner he is. He likes to get downhill, not make too many moves, and try to get into the secondary. We have to try to get to him early before he gets started and tackle him. That is the best thing we can do.

RB THOMAS JONES

On the NFL's investigation into whether the Patriots videotaped Jets defensive coaches Sunday ...

I don't get into that. It's an NFL security issue. I'm here to play football, so that's what I'm focused on.

On the Baltimore defense …

They move around a lot. They have some fast guys on defense and they have played together a lot, so they are experienced guys. We have a great football team and they have a great football team, so it's going to be a great game.

On Ravens LB Ray Lewis …

As of right now we are preparing as if he is playing and preparing for him to be in. Regardless of whether he is in or not, he's a great player, one of the best linebackers ever, and I have a lot of respect for him and what he means to that team. We're preparing for him to be there and if he isn't there, we'll treat it the same.

WR LAVERANUES COLES

On the Baltimore defense …

They have a lot of guys who have made Pro Bowls. Samari Rolle is a great guy. I'm very familiar with him and he is an excellent cover corner. You have Ed Reed backed up behind him and [Dawan] Landry. Reed is a ballhawk who plays the ball very well. Anytime you look at a secondary like that and a total defense as good as they are, you know you have your work cut out for you.

On whether the Ravens' uncertainty at QB affects the Jets' preparations …

It's all 11 guys that are involved and right now what is best for the team is each individual focusing in on the game plan and understanding the role he is going to play this week and going out and trying to execute and get better for a ballgame on Sunday.

On his comfort level with QB Kellen Clemens …

He works hard every day, day in and day out, and that's all you can ask of any individual. The comfort level has nothing to do with going out and playing a game on Sunday. The most important thing is going out and competing.

QB KELLEN CLEMENS

On preparing for Baltimore …

I'm excited for this week of preparation. I'm excited to go out and get some good work done and hopefully we'll come away with a win.

On whether he is approaching this week any differently …

You approach each week like you're going to be the starter and see who plays on Sunday. As a backup or starter, you approach it the same way and you try to get as ready as possible.

On the Ravens defense …

They are a very good ballclub. I think they were ranked No. 1 overall as a defense last year. They do a lot of good things, have a lot of good players, a lot of Pro Bowlers, so it should be a good challenge for us.
