Jets Name Sal Spampanato Coach of the Week

The New York Jets announced today that Sal Spampanato of Ocean Township High School in Oakhurst, NJ has been named this week's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award. For his efforts, he will receive $1,000 to benefit the school's football program, and he will be presented with a plaque from the New York Jets.

In its eleventh year, the award is given to a coach in the Tri-State area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.

Coach Spampanato is in his 4th season as head coach of the Spartans and owns a career record of 28-12. Under Spampanato's direction, they captured the 2005 Central Jersey Group III State Championship. The Spartans play in the Shore-Federal Conference. Spampanato, Ocean Township Class of 1987, is currently in his 14th year as a special education teacher at the high school in addition to being its head football coach.

Last weekend, the Spartans defeated the Middletown South Eagles 19-14 ending the 3rd longest win streak in New Jersey High School Football History of 43 games. This win clinched the Shore-Federal Conference Championship for the 2006 Season and improves their overall record to 6-1. Ocean's next contest is against the Long Branch Green Waves at home on Friday November 3rd.
