The New York Jets announced today that Ron Anello of Clifton High School in Clifton, NJ has been named this week's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award. For his efforts, he will receive $1,000 to benefit the school's football program, and he will be presented with a certificate from the New York Jets.
In its eleventh year, the award is given to a coach in the Tri-State area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.
Coach Anello is in his 25th year of coaching high school football. Prior to his stint with Clifton, he spent 10 years, 1987-1996, as head coach of West Essex High School and guided them to a conference championship during 1994 football season. He is in his 3rd year as head coach of the Mustangs and holds a record of 15 – 14 while competing in the Section 1 Group 4 Conference. Coach Anello also serves as the head of the physical education department at Clifton High School.
Last weekend, the #8 seed Mustangs upset the #1 seed North Bergen Bruins 15-8 to advance to the next round of playoff action. The win is Clifton's first playoff victory since 1979. Clifton's next contest is on the road against the Randolph Rams on Friday November 17th at 7 p.m.
