Jets Name Fred Olivieri Coach of the Year

The New York Jets announced today that Fred Olivieri of Curtis High School in Staten Island, NY has been named the recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Year Award. For his efforts, he will receive $2,000 to benefit the school's football program, and he will be presented with a certificate from the New York Jets.

In its eleventh year, the award is given to a coach in the Tri-State area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.

Coach Olivieri is in his 25th year of coaching the Curtis Warriors and holds an overall record of 157 – 108 - 4. During his tenure, Olivieri has led the Warriors to Public School Athletic League (PSAL) City Championships in 1998, '99 and '02. The Warriors were PSAL City Finalist in 1997 and PSAL Cup Champions in 2005. Coach Olivieri, Curtis Class of '66, also serves as the earth science teacher at the high school.

Last weekend, Curtis fell short in their quest for a 4th city title to the defending city champ, Fort Hamilton Tigers, in the PSAL Championship Game. The Warriors finished a great season with a record of 12 - 1.
