Jets and Gatorade Name Jared Mazzetta of North Hunterdon High School Coach of the Week

The New York Jets announced today that Jared Mazzetta of North Hunterdon High School in Annandale, NJ has been named this week's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week award fueled by Gatorade. Through Gatorade's partnership, the monetary award to benefit the school's football program has doubled to $2,000. Coach Mazzetta will receive a Gatorade kit, containing a cooler, fuel bars, Gatorade powder mix, squeeze bottles and much more. Along with this award, North Hunterdon High School receives an automatic bid to compete in the 2018 New York Jets 7on7 Tournament. In addition, he is invited to watch the New York Jets play the Los Angeles Chargers on December 24th from a luxury suite at MetLife Stadium, where he will be presented with a certificate and an award ball.

In its 22nd year, the Coach of the Week award is given to a coach in the Tri-State area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.

Mazzetta attended Hunterdon Central High School in Flemington, NJ, where he played tight end and defensive end. During his junior and senior seasons, Hunterdon Central went 23-1 and won two state championships. After graduating in 2000, Mazzetta earned a scholarship to play at Virginia Tech. He lettered all four years and was named a captain during his senior season. Coach Mazzetta is in his fourth season as head coach and eleventh season overall with North Hunterdon High School. In addition to his coaching career, Mazzetta is in his tenth year of teaching health and physical education at North Hunterdon High School.

The North Hunterdon Lions won a thrilling 21-14 bout over the Bridgewater-Raritan Panthers. The Lions scored on a 75-yard hook and lateral with under two minutes left in the game, bringing their record to 5-0 for the season. The Lions will face the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders on Saturday, October 14th at 1:00pm.
