HS Coach of the Week: Rob Trifone, Darien

The New York Jets have named Rob Trifone of Darien (CT) High School this week's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award presented by Chase.

Through Chase's partnership, the monetary award to benefit the school's football program has doubled to $2,000. Coach Trifone will be presented with a certificate and an award ball. In addition, he is invited to watch the Jets play the Tennessee Titans on Dec. 13 in Chase's suite at MetLife Stadium.

In its 20th year, the Coach of the Week award is given to a coach in the tristate area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.

Trifone is in his 28th season as a high school football head coach, with 18 seasons at the helm of Brien McMahon High School. He has acquired many accolades during his coaching career. He was Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC) Coach of the Year in 1994, '95, 2000, '08 and '10, was named Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) Coach of the Year in 1994, and was also named National Football Foundation Coach of Year in 1995.

Trifone's Brien McMahon team was crowned state champion of Connecticut in 1994. Additionally, his teams won divisional titles in the '94, '95, '08, '10 and '14 seasons, FCIAC league titles in '94, '95, '10 and '14, and Class L Runner up in '08, '13 and '14.

On Oct. 24 Darien defeated the Danbury Hatters, 49-6, to improve to 5-0 and give Coach Trifone his 200th coaching victory. The Blue Wave's next game is on the road against the Wilton Warriors on Friday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m.
