HS Coach of the Week: Joe Trongone, Clarkstown North

The New York Jets announced today that Joe Trongone of Clarkstown High School North in Congers, N.Y., has been named this week's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award. Trongone will receive $1,000 to benefit the school's football program and he will be presented with a certificate from the New York Jets.

The award, in its 15th year, is given to a coach in the tristate area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to the community, the school and the student-athletes.

Trongone is in his 11th season as head coach of the Rams. He previously served as an assistant coach for seven seasons at his alma mater, Clarkstown High School South. He was captain of the football team while earning all-section, all-county and all-league honors as a senior defensive He is in his 15th year as a math teacher at Clarkstown North in addition to his duties as head football coach.

On Thursday night, the Rams defeated the North Rockland Red Raiders for the first time in 31 seasons, 14-6, to improve their record to 2-0. Clarkstown North will be at home to face the Indians of Mahopac High School on Friday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.
