The New York Jets announced today that Chris Beagan of Monroe High School in Monroe, N.J., has been named this week's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award. For his efforts, Beagan will receive $1,000 to benefit the school's football program and he will be presented with a certificate from the Jets.

The award, in its 13th year, is given to a coach in the tristate area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.

Beagan is in his first year as head coach of the Monroe Falcons. He was previously an assistant coach at his alma mater, Sayreville High School. He honed his craft under head coach George Najjar and helped Sayreville win a state title in 1997. Beagan is currently a physical education teacher at Monroe.

Last weekend, Monroe defeated the Perth Amboy Panthers, 27-0, for their fourth shutout of the season to win their first Greater Middlesex Conference White Division title. The Falcons' final regular-season home game will be against the Old Bridge Knights on Friday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m.
