A Call to Action

Lupus is a life-threatening disease that affects over one million Americans each year. But, unlike many other chronic auto-immune diseases, most people still don't know what Lupus is or how it affects the body. Systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus) is a chronic autoimmune disease that can affect the joints and almost every major organ in the body, including the heart, kidneys, skin, lungs, and brain.

Many people also don't know the critical role that the Jets have played to help create awareness about this potentially deadly disease and to raise money for research that will help save lives. To date, lupus related events that the Jets have supported have raised over $2 million. And, this year, with your help, we hope to raise more money than ever before.

Jets owner Woody Johnson established the Alliance for Lupus Research (ALR) in 1999. The mission of the organization for which he serves as Chairman is to support research into the cause, cure, treatment and prevention of systematic lupus erythematosus and its complications.

You too can help.

This Saturday, May 20th, join Woody Johnson, Head Coach Eric Mangini, General Manager Mike Tannenbaum and their wives, along with current and former Jets players for the third annual Long Island Walk With Us to Cure Lupus.

The walk kicks off at Eisenhower State Park in East Meadow NY. Check-in begins at 9 AM and the walk officially starts at 10 AM.

All Jets fans attending the walk will have the opportunity to receive autographs and photos from their favorite Jets players, coaches and alumni. In addition, there will be refreshments, entertainment and Generation Jets Fest rides for kids of all ages.

But, if you can't make it to this Saturday's great event, we have three more walks coming up in the tri-state area. For the past four years, the Jets have sponsored three walkathons in New York, New Jersey and Long Island - to support the important work of ALR. This year, we are sponsoring a fourth walkathon in New Brunswick as well. In the coming weeks, we will provide you with more information about these events and how you can get involved.

For more information on the event, email walks@lupusresearch.org, log onto the Long Island Walk with Us to Cure Lupus website or call the Alliance for Lupus Research toll free at 866-WALK-ALR (925-5257).
