The New York Jets will get the Darren Mougey/Aaron Glenn era underway on Sept. 7 with a season-opening home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. After quarterback Justin Fields faces his former team in Week 1, the Jets will remain at home and host the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium on Sept. 14. The Jets will technically be the "home" team in five of their first seven games and in six of their first nine games for the first time since 1964.
2025 Jets Schedule Highlights
Familiar Fields
The Jets signed Justin Fields in March and their new starting QB will make his Green & White debut against his former team -- the Pittsburgh Steelers -- in Week 1.
Last season in Pittsburgh, Fields (6-3, 227) went 4-2 as a starter while totaling 10 TDs (5 pass/5 run) against just 2 turnovers. His 66% completion percentage and 93.9 passer rating were career highs. This will be the first time the Jets and the Steelers meet in a season opener and the first Jets' home opening-date against the Steelers since a 23-17 Thursday night loss to Pittsburgh in the Meadowlands on Sept. 6, 1984. Aaron Rodgers, who started 17 games for the Jets last season and has had conversations with the Steelers, remains a free agent.
Playoff Teams Early
Although the Jets' opponents' strength of schedule ranks 26th, the Green & White will line up against 2024 playoff clubs in each of their first three contests and four of their first six overall.
After the home opener against the Steelers, the Jets will host a Bills club in Week 2 that has captured the past five AFC East titles. Then in Week 3, the Jets will get their road slate started in Tampa against a Buccaneers outfit that is the only NFC team to reach the playoffs the previous five seasons. The Jets will also "host" the Broncos at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London in Week 6. The Jets will face five playoff teams (Buffalo twice; Pittsburgh; Tampa Bay; Denver; and Baltimore;) and seven teams who finished with records under .500. The .460 (133-156) is the second-lowest (easiest) strength of schedule heading into a season since at least 1996.
An Inviting Stretch
It will be interesting to see where the Jets stand after their 11th game, at Baltimore on Nov. 23. Their post-Thanksgiving slate from Weeks 13-17 consists of five teams that finished under .500 last season: vs. Atlanta Falcons, vs. Miami Dolphins, at Jacksonville Jaguars, at New Orleans Saints and vs. New England Patriots.
Much like the Jets, the Patriots (Mike Vrabel), the Jaguars (Liam Coen) and the Saints (Kellen Moore) have head coaches in their first years. None of the clubs are void of talent as the Pats may have one of the NFL's most improved rosters. Rookie sensation Travis Hunter will be fun to watch in Jacksonville, but this could be a nice stretch for the Green & White to make some noise.
Matinee Football
The Jets are slated to have 13 kickoffs at 1 p.m. Eastern including all eight home games at MetLife Stadium. This marks the third time since 1995 (2021 and 2017) the Jets will have at least 13 1 p.m. games. The Jets are scheduled to appear in two AFC East primetime games as the visitor -- Week 4 Thursday night at Miami and Week 11 Monday night at New England -- while the Jets-Broncos contest in Week 6 will make it three standalone games.
London Sandwich
For the third time since 2018, the Jets will play three consecutive games where they are the designated "home" team.
On Tuesday, the NFL announced that the Jets will host the Broncos in Week 6 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The international contest will mark the Jets' third game at Tottenham in five seasons. Prior to facing the Broncos in North London, the Jets will look to secure their third consecutive home victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Jets HC Aaron Glenn, who lined up at CB for the Boys in 2005-06 and recorded 5 INTs and 20 PDs, will lead the Green & White in this interconference matchup. Then after returning from the United Kingdom, the Jets will face the Carolina Panthers at MetLife.
Check out the Green & White's 2025 17-game slate, which includes eight games at MetLife Stadium, eight road games and one game in London.
