Many players have flashed over the first seven practices of training camp, but here are three players/themes that have been trending up.
The Chemistry Between Aaron Rodgers and Garrett Wilson
This may seem obvious, but it's impossible to ignore the fast start from Rodgers and Wilson. Their rapport, which was apparent this time last year, has been more pronounced early in camp.
The pair has consistently connected on all three levels of the passing game, highlighted by two deep passes where Wilson sprung free with fans in attendance at 1 Jets Drive. In Wednesday's practice, Rodgers and Wilson combined for three red-zone touchdowns.
"Eight (Rodgers) and Garrett, they definitely on a different zone right now," CB D.J. Reed said last week. "With their chemistry, they're doing stuff on the go. They're running certain routes where if you over pursue, they are running another route. They're definitely in a different element, but it's ultimately going to make me better."
LB Jamien Sherwood
The fourth-year player has been a special teams stalwart for the Jets each of the last two seasons. His 729 snaps in that span lead the team compared to his 219 snaps on defense.
Early in camp, Sherwood, drafted in the fifth round in 2021 as a safety, has been active on defense. He's broken up multiple passes and forced a fumble.
"I have two great role models in front of me," he said. "All-Pro C.J. Mosley and All-Pro Quincy Williams, so my practices just revolve around them. Trying to match their level of intensity and it's a competition at the end of the day. I'm just trying to be as good as them and be the best that I can be every day."
HC Robert Saleh added: "He looks awesome. … Throughout camp and OTAs, in chaotic moments, he's still finding a way to get everybody lined up along with getting his feet in the ground and making the play, which is a really cool step in his development as a football player. He's off to a really good start."
CB Jarrick Bernard-Converse
When asked about a player who has been flying under the radar, S Tony Adams mentioned Bernard-Converse, who made the switch from safety to corner this offseason.
JBC, drafted in the sixth round out of LSU in 2023, was hindered by a foot injury his rookie season. He missed all of training camp and started last season on the physically unable to perform list. He then played in eight games and took four snaps on defense and 101 on special teams.
"Last year he couldn't compete because he had an injury, he was kind of down on himself a little bit just because coming off a foot injury messes you up a little bit," Adams said. "As a DB, your feet are everything. Just seeing him come out here and compete at the highest level, playing physical, playing fast, its just so dope and it's great to see his maturity.
"I'm proud of him. He was in my room last year and just seeing his growth and maturity levels, it touched me. I'm really proud of that guy and I can't wait to see what he does this year."
