Throughout the season, NewYorkJets.com will provide a Stock Report ahead of the Jets' upcoming matchup.
This week's report features players and/or themes that are trending before the Green & White take on the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5 at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
📈 Renewed Ground Game
The Jets struggled to run the ball in Weeks 2 and 4 after rushing for 182 yards in Week 1. The Green & White got back to a successful ground-and-pound game in Week 4 rushing for a season-high 197 yards against the Dolphins.
Despite the 27-21 loss to Miami, HC Aaron Glenn came away encouraged by the progress the Jets' O-line showed.
"I'm encouraged by our run game," Glenn said. "I thought that went really well. I thought Breece Hall did a hell of a job of toting the pill. … For our line, it will be about consistency and replicating the performance."
Hall looked explosive Monday night, making decisive cuts and quickly shedding oncoming defenders. Hall ran for 81 yards on 14 carries (5.8 YPC) and totaled 5 receptions for 30 yards.
📈 Mason Taylor Magic
TE Mason Taylor, the Jets' second round pick (No. 42) in April's NFL Draft, put together his most complete game of the season in Week 4. He registered a career-high 5 receptions on 7 targets for 65 yards and posted a season-best 71.5 blocking, according to Pro Football Focus.
"Another thing that we talked about earlier in the week is getting Mason ([Taylor]) involved," HC Aaron Glenn said. "And I thought Justin [Fields] did a really good job of getting Mason involved in the passing game also, so there's some things that we'll continue to build on."
Of Taylor's 5 catches, 4 went for first downs including a 27-yard catch and run. In addition, he played his best game with his dad, Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor, and his entire family in attendance in South Florida.
📉 Jets Pre-Snap Penalties
For the second straight week, penalties were an issue for the Green & White. New York was penalized a season-high 13 times, 6 pre-snap, for 101 yards. Trailing by two scores, 24-10, and trying to engineer a comeback, on the Jets first two offensive possessions of the fourth quarter they lost 45 yards due to penalties that contributed to ending the drives.
"I thought our guys played with effort," HC Aaron Glenn. "It's not that our guys understood the ramifications of this game, but to go out there and have that many penalties and really pre-snap penalties and turn the ball over, that's what was so disappointing in this game. I'm not losing hope in our guys at all and I'm telling you now, we just got to go back to work. That's all we can do. That's all we can do."
