Throughout the season, NewYorkJets.com will provide a Stock Report focusing on the Jets' upcoming matchup.

This week's report features players and/or themes that are trending before the Green & White take on the visiting Carolina Panthers in Week 7.

📈 Jermaine Johnson
Pro Bowl edge rusher Jermaine Johnson returned to the Jets in Week 6 after missing the last three games with an ankle injury. He made his presence felt on the field and off.

One of the Jets' first round picks in 2022 registered 2 pressures, 3 tackles and a fourth quarter sack against Denver in London. In addition, at the end of the third quarter, he gathered the defense on the sideline and rallied them for the final quarter.

"I am a strong believer in we can only control what we can control," Johnson said. "And in that moment, all I was saying was that every time we step out on that field, we have a legacy to uphold individually and collectively."

The defense responded to Johnson's return delivering its best game of the year. The Jets allowed a season-low 13 points, 246 total yards and posted 9.34 expected points added, the third highest total by a defense in Week 6.

"Jermaine, he's just one of these good players that brings good energy," HC Aaron Glenn said. "Obviously, he can get after the quarterback, he's stout at the point of attack, and man when you add that element to your defense it only helps you."

📈 Jarvis Brownlee Jr.'s Ascension
Jets GM Darren Mougey acquired CB Jarvis Brownlee Jr. in a trade with Tennessee in late September, and the move paid dividends in Week 6 versus Denver.

Brownlee, a fifth-round pick by the Titans in 2024, was the third-highest graded CB in the NFL in Week 6 with a 90.4 defensive rating. In the game, he had 6 tackles, a TFL and forced a fumble on the third play of the game.

Brownlee missed Weeks 3 and 4 with an ankle injury and made his debut for the Green & White in Week 5 playing 7 defensive snaps. He played 41 snaps against the Broncos and could continue to see his role grow.

"Brownlee is one of those guys that, he's very physical, he loves man coverage, and he came in and he learned our system fairly quick," HC Aaron Glenn said. "… Brownlee is a pretty good player, and hopefully he can continue to ascend with us."

📉 Passing Game Looking to Bounce Back
The Jets struggled to move the ball against the Broncos in Week 6, gaining 82 total yards and making one trip into the red zone. QB Justin Fields passed for 45 yards, his lowest total of the season, against Denver's second ranked pass defense.

Fields this season, however, has looked good more frequently than he has struggled. In three of his other four starts this season he has thrown for 225-plus yards, tossed 7 TDs and no interceptions in total.

HC Aaron Glenn is confident the Jets will see the more consistent side of Fields versus the Panthers 17th-ranked pass defense in Week 7.

"In this fifth game, Fields took a step back 100 percent," Glenn said Monday. "And we can't have that. He knows that better than anyone. … But I think he has played fairly well so far and I expect him to continue to do that."

Take a look back at the Jets vs. Panthers games across the last few decades.
