Throughout the season, NewYorkJets.com will provide a Stock Report focusing on the Jets' upcoming matchup.
This week's report features players and/or themes that are trending up or down before the Green & White return to Florida to take on the AFC East rival Miami Dolphins.
📈 Jets Fourth-Quarter Offense
After scoring 16 points over a 7-quarter stretch, dating from the start of their Week 2 game to the end of third quarter of their Week 3 matchup, the Jets offense scored 14 points in the fourth quarter against the Buccaneers.
Led by QB Tyrod Taylor, the Green & White offense found its rhythm by using a more up-tempo approach. The Jets ran 21 offensive plays in the fourth quarter after averaging 11.4 plays per quarter over the last 7 frames.
WR Garrett Wilson spoke about what sparked the team's fourth quarter performance: "Honestly, we were playing with a different tempo. You are down two or three scores and you [have] to play accordingly. With that, I feel like we were operating pretty well in our two-minute situation and guys were executing."
Taylor, in the fourth quarter vs. Tampa Bay, completed 12-of-15 pass attempts for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns. In addition, he completed passes to 6 receivers, led by 3 receptions for 29 yards and a touchdown by Wilson.
HC Aaron Glenn told reporters Wednesday that QB Justin Fields will remain in concussion protocol but will be named the starter if/when he is cleared. Regardless of who starts in Week 4, the Jets will look to carry their offensive momentum into their matchup with Miami.
📈 Austin McNamara's Right Leg
In his first season as a full-time NFL starter, Jets punter Austin McNamara has looked the part.
McNamara has punted 11 times over the first 3 games, 36.4% of which have been downed inside the 20-yard-line and 6 of which have been returned for a total of 21 yards, the fourth fewest return yards in the NFL.
In addition, McNamara has averaged 4.76 seconds of hang time per punt, fourth longest in the league. Against the Buccaneers in Week 3, he punted twice, only one of which was returned for minus-1 yard.
"We're proud of with him," ST Coordinator Chris Banjo said. "He has relentless effort in regard to working, just being obsessed with his craft. He puts his head down every day, puts his head down, just comes to work every day, and he's just looking to get better slowly and surely on a daily basis."
📈 Miami Rookie RB Ollie Gordon
Playing within an offense that features perennial Pro Bowlers such as WR Tyreek Hill, WR Jaylen Waddle and RB De'Von Achane, it can be difficult to stand out. Rookie RB Ollie Gordon, however, has managed to carve out a role for himself.
After receiving 3 carries through the first two weeks, Gordon, a sixth-round pick in April's draft out of Oklahoma State, ran 9 times for 38 yards and a touchdown in the 'Fins Week 3 loss to Buffalo.
"I've been very intentional with where we thought Ollie was," Miami HC Mike McDaniel said. "I thought he could help us on offense, but he had to continue to develop his off-ball responsibilities, so I challenged him with that.
Gordon (6-2, 225) has responded to the challenge. Against Buffalo he did not allow a single pressure on 3 pass block snaps. If his role on offense continues to expand, the bruising tailback could be one for New York to look out for in Week 4.
