Moments after the Jets had completed their second practice of rookie minicamp, HC Aaron Glenn provided insight on his message to the players assembled at 1 Jets Drive.

"I told those guys it doesn't really matter where you're from, even what you did," he said of a group comprised of several holdovers, the seven-player draft class, 15 UDFAs and 12 tryouts. "The thing is they've all done a great job to get in the building. And once you get in the building – you have a shot. I thought it was important for them to understand that – I thought it was important for them to understand the direction of what we're trying to do in this camp, and it wasn't a true physical camp. But there were three things that I wanted to get out of these guys. What I wanted to know is can they learn, one, two, are they coachable and three, can they play special teams. And I think a lot of those guys answered those questions, so that was my message to those guys, and I thought those guys did a really good job."

Glenn, who spent the previous nine seasons as the New Orleans Saints defensive backs coach (2016-20) and Detroit Lions defensive coordinator (2021-24), is running the entire show for the first time.

"Now my focus is on the whole team but it's outstanding for me to get the chance to go to ever position and be able to give my opinions on how they should do things and try to help those guys be successful," he said. "That's the fun thing about coaching, that's the fun thing about my development as a coach, to be able to go with the quarterbacks and talk to those guys, the running backs, the D-line, the linebackers. So that was the change of being able to move around the field and being able to coach every position."

Speedster Arian Smith, a fourth-round pick from Georgia, flashed his speed during team walkthrough Friday while TE Mason Taylor, a second-round pick from LSU, hauled in multiple receptions the past two days.

"Arian has some juice, doesn't he. God, he can run and he's bouncy and he's a really good athlete," Glenn said. "And I thought the first day, he went out there and he was really focused on making sure that I see through the ball, and I make sure that I can bring it in. I think he did a good job yesterday catching the ball. Mason is exactly who we thought he was, he has dynamic movements. He can really catch the ball – he does a good job catching the ball away from his body. He's quick to bring it in and get north and south exactly like we want, which is what we call knifing. Listen, I'm happy with both of those men and there is a clear vision of how we are going to utilize those guys and I'm glad they're on our team."

While there is only so much to gleam during non-contact drills, T Armand Membou, the team's No. 7 overall selection from Missouri, is a big-bodied lineman who showcased his feet and athleticism.

"I could easily say dancing bear, but everyone says that," Glenn said. "But he's an agile, gifted big man with measurables that everyone wants when it comes to offensive linemen and he's only going to get better. He wants to work, he wants to be good, he wants to compete, he has all those traits that we look for when it comes to an O-lineman, he's nasty. I'm excited for what he's going to do when you add him to the guys that we already have, so there's going to be a lot of competition on that O-line and those guys know it. I've said it several times that elite athletes strive in those situations, and I do believe that he is going to step up to the plate and be one of the guys and actually strive knowing that he's competing with everybody on that O-line to be the best that they can be."

One of 11 siblings himself, Glenn smiled when he was asked about tryout LB Giovanni Williams (5-10, 209). The Miles College product is the younger brother of Jets' All-Pro defenders Quincy Williams and Quinnen Williams.

"I don't know if there's ever– and you guys can correct me if I'm wrong – been three brothers actually suit up for the same team in some capacity," Glenn said. " And I just think that it's outstanding that he has a Jets jersey on, and both of his brothers are actually here with us. So, it's a beautiful story, he's working his butt off."
