NORBY: 'Control the Controllable'

Hey, Jets fans! It's Norby from the Flight Crew Cheerleaders!

The holiday season has finally arrived and I could not be any happier. Unfortunately, with this cheerful season come long lines, crowded malls and a bad case of "shop till you drop fever." To avoid the headaches and stress of holiday shopping, I would like to share a phrase that Denise Garvey, director of the Flight Crew Cheerleaders, always says before we head out to the field on gameday: "Control the controllable."

We all know how jam-packed the stores can get at this time of year and that is something out of our control, but what we can control is how organized and prepared we are to shop! With these tips and our key phrase, you will become a holiday shopping champion!

Tip #1: Make a list of everyone you need to shop for before hitting the mall. If you already know exactly what and where to find the item, jot that down too. This will save you a lot of time and will get you in and out of the stores quicker!

Tip #2: Set a budget! Setting a budget is crucial, but sticking to it is even more important. Remember you cannot control the price, but you CAN control how much you will spend.

Tip #3: Keep all of your holiday receipts together. This will make returns much easier and you can also see if you stuck to your budget at the end of the day. Also, make sure to ask for a gift receipt in case the gift needs to be exchanged or returned.

Tip #4: Bring healthy snacks and water! It will be a long day of shopping, and those yummy-smelling pretzel stands are there for a reason! Try to avoid getting lured into stopping by a food stand. Stop by the food court AFTER you have completed your shopping list!

Tip #5: Consider online shopping. It's a great way to minimize your trips to the mall. Some stores offer a pickup service where you can pay for your items online and pick them up in the store. This method comes in handy when shopping for electronics and you won't have to wait in line!

Hopefully these tips will help you with your holiday shopping! Remember to control the controllable, and set yourself up for success as you shop this season! Good luck Jets fans and I will see you on the sidelines!

—Cheers!
